Delta Lloyd Regatta great learning week

It was a fantastic week for the Delta Lloyd Regatta. After years of being a cold, windy regatta, the conditions of the 2017 edition where perfect. Lots of sunshine, a good breeze and it was possible to sail every race planned. At the prize giving ceremony we saw only happy sailors. Ok, maybe some of them a bit disappointed not to win a medal, but that’s the sport.

For me it was a great learning week, being part of an experienced media team, with most experience in shooting video’s and reaching the media. A part of the team have been involved in the regatta for years, so I could learn from their knowledge of this particular regatta. Although there was a lot of regatta experience, they didn’t have a lot of sailing knowledge, that’s where I came in. In the end I was the one writing all the international content for the press release at the end of each day. Posting stuff on social media and live reporting on twitter from the medal races. It was a great opportunity to get to know some international sailors and chat with them about their sailing careers and future plans. The vibe was just great with lots of Olympic sailors just getting back in the boat after the Rio Olympics. But there were also a lot of young talents preparing for big World Championships and aiming for Tokyo 2020.

Over the last few years I’ve been working on a lot of different sailing events, national and international. Although every event is different, there’s always an organization behind it working as hard as they can to make the event a big success for all participants. And it’s great to be a part of that.
